Cobb County 175th Birthday Celebration
December 3, 2007 • 6:45 PM (pre-show)
Cobb County
will celebrate its 175th Anniversary Monday, Dec. 3, at the new
Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Tickets for this free public event
are limited and will be released Thursday, Nov. 1. Only four tickets per
household and they must be picked up in person on a first-come,
first-serve basis.
Young Artists Competition

The
Cobb Symphony Orchestra announced its Young Artists Competition with a
first place cash award of $1,000 and a performance with the Cobb
Symphony Orchestra. A second place prize of $500 and a third place prize
of $325 will also be awarded. The Competition is open to all students 21
years and younger in piano, strings, winds, brass, percussion or voice.

Masterworks #2 – So Longs and Smiles

Audiences will find humor in Haydn's Symphony #45,
often nicknamed Farewell, as musicians leave the stage one-by-one during
the performance. At the end of the concert, no performers remain on
stage. The piece was written as a successful “hint” that the musicians
had been detailed in an Austrian prince’s court for a little bit too
long and were ready to return home. Russian piano sensation, Marina
Lomazov, will perform with the CSO during Tchaikovsky’s First Piano
Concerto. From $15 to $35.

Orchestra
The Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra presents its
season kick off November 4, 2007 at Kennesaw State University. The Youth
Orchestra, now in its second season, survived amidst the chaos of the
Dozier Centre, something that would have normally been the end to
organizations. It continues to vibrantly thrive and is a cornerstone
organization in the greater metro area. The 200+ members involved in the
program come from 10 counties, over 60 schools (public, private and
home) and range in age from 8 to 18.

A Night at the
Movies

A night at the movies with the Cobb Symphony
Orchestra features music and images from The Sound of Music, Fantasia,
and Raiders of the Lost Ark. The event will benefit the Camp Hope
Kidz2Leaders program. Camp Hope Kidz2Leaders is a week-long camping
experience that offers hope to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade children living in
metro Atlanta whose parent(s) are incarcerated. From $15 to $35.
